Chocolate Bundt Cake

I made a chocolate bundt cake which unfortunately turned out a little salty. I misread the instructions which called for coarse grain salt on TOP of the cake and fine grain salt IN the cake. So while I lowered the amount of salt, the cake wasn't very sweet at all. That plus the fact that 101 Cookbooks tends to cut down on the sugar, and there was also Guiness in the cake! I poured a little honey on top and that seems to have helped!

Day out with M and E

M and I went with E to Singkids today. E really loved it. She bounced around and didn't want to leave. We had a nice lunch at Brotzeit - the many ways they do potatoes make me love them instantly.

Lunch

Simian and I had lunch with M and J at Cafe Iguana yesterday. I forgot to take photos of the food but we had banana chimichangas and apple enchiladas. As M said though, goreng pisang (fried bananas) is still goreng pisang.

Baking

After goiriego sent me wonderful baking supplies, I decided I needed to bake! So last week, I made strawberry shortcakes from Nigella Lawson's recipe as well as this cinnamon pull away bread. Both were
fantastic.

E at the Botanics

 

Here's E (she's really not a baby anymore!) pushing her stroller in the Botanics this afternoon. Yes, that is an elephant. She is super serious about it, which is really funny!

Presents

 

Goiriego sent me these awesome presents for my birthday! I was so excited (and surprised) to see a GIGANTIC package sitting on my table. I opened it to find a fantastic camera bag, lovely baking cups and amazing baking tools. Seriously, what wizardry was this? A whisk cum spoon??? A spatula that had a curve so you wouldn't have to keep scraping like an idiot? Must bake NOW to try them!

93 Dishes

 

T left early Thursday morning after 5 weeks in Southeast Asia. Except for short trips to Cambodia and Malaysia, he mostly spent his time in Singapore, and worked his way through 93 dishes in this book. It was pretty impressive. As Simian took him out for hawker food during lunch, I missed those photos :) T didn't eat anything that wasn't local and his preferred dining destination was a hawker centre. I think we hit almost every 'famous' hawker centre in Singapore and he loved them all :) Simian and I told him that he is definitely an honourary Singaporean.

Brunch

 

I had brunch on Sunday with Imp, Lingcat and Coboypb at Artichoke. It was lovely to catch up and see how everyone was doing. I was also very excited to find a bunch of shops selling party supplies close by. Imp and I went browsing and we agreed to come back when there is a party!

Botanics

 

Since S left a day later than previously thought, we took her to Holland Village and then to the Botanics. We saw these strange pitcher plant-orchid looking hybrids. Does anyone know what they are?
