Simian and I tried to figure out how the kahlua tiramisu tasted different - somehow the sponge was not quite the same. Simian said it soaked up the liquid like a squeegee in an entirely complimentary way :)
The chocolate sorbet was almost like barely solid very thick hot chocolate - lovely.
This came with gula melaka sauce and water chestnuts on top. Also fabulous.
The chutney in this dish had whole chillis in it - delicious.
One of the owner's, who made our wedding so great stopped by. She was there for a meeting and stopped in to say hello along with her two year old.
Simian and I shared the lasagne, which was gorgeous.
This was even better than I last remembered it to be.
Simian and I went back to Ember (the restaurant website is gone - but this is the hotel's website) where we got married three years ago for our wedding anniversary. They've changed the decor but the food is still as lovely as it always was. The staff who were there when we got married were as friendly and welcoming as always.
I used my Christmas present today! Will charge the other batteries and then put them into something to see how they work!

When we were in Maryland, I bought chestnuts - only to bite into them to discover they were raw. These however were beautifully roasted. I liked how the bag gives you instructions on how to crack them!
I met Mom at Tangs after my dental appointment. The hue of this particular crystal made my eyes hurt :)
We drove through Chinatown and I quickly snapped this photo from the car - I liked the old, winding staircases juxtaposed against the new buildings.
These were lovely with the chili the restaurant provided.
Simian had to work today - and went to give a talk, but we had a quick lunch with Mom first at Crystal Jade. We had these fried dough rice rolls.

S moved recently and M and I wanted to get her a house warming present. Because J and S were both so un-forthcoming about what they needed, we decided to get S the most hideous thing we could find under $10. I think we succeeded.
J knowing that I am a Pre-Raphaelite fan, got me this beautifully illustrated version of the Canterbury Tales.
Someone sent this over for me while I was away. We spent the whole night trying to figure out what it was and I think the consensus was some kind of mutant reindeer.
I also had the clear bamboo pith soup which was good.We also had a number of other dishes, including a monkey head mushroom noodles, and spinach in broth (which was good).
Dad took Simian and I out for lunch at Jiang Nan-Chun. It was my first visit and Simian's too. This was the mock duck - fried beancurd skin wrapped and it was lovely.
I made cookies for small Christmas sacks - cranberry raisin chocolate chip and orange cranberry cookies.
Today was a busy baking day in anticipation of the Christmas party tonight. Here's the vanilla pear Clafouti I made. More tomorrow - it's bed time :)
Simian had never had biscuit ice cream till last year - he had the corn ice cream today from the ice cream seller who cycles around our neighbourhood.

Mom's favourite dessert - green tea yogurt. It somehow tastes like creamy avocado. A sweet end to a great meal.
We had yam soup too - Simian said this was like a really intense mushroom soup, but not :)
Simian, Mom and I went to Seven Sensations for lunch. Among the various other delicious food we had, this was the mango avocado salad.
Yum! I've been telling Simian about this for ages.
River sticks to Simian all day - if Simian moves, River does too :)

My Mom got Simian and I ginseng! We've been guzzling it through winter so this is awesome. She also got me some shorts for here and for summer in Maryland!
M got me this for Christmas! So cool - the other half of my present was the blender!
Mitchy came over this evening. This is her hiding when I tried to take a photo.
This is such a pretty gift bag. M got it and recycled it to me, and I'll recycle it for someone else. It's far to pretty to just use once!
